Do you need a greenhouse to grow in Wells?

Yes and no. A greenhouse in a short growing season is a huge bonus, but not a must. Cold frames work very well in zone 2-3 and there are vegetables that do better than others. My experience with vegetables in Wells is if you want to grow squashes you need to have a steady heat in the night, which in wells is a challenge. Kale, Broccoli, lettuce, carrots all do great, but having an advantage of a greenhouse or cold frame in an Alpine climate is very helpful.
